About renting in Oakville
Oakville is the most expensive rental market on this site outside downtown Toronto, and it has the smallest supply of purpose-built apartments relative to its size, because most of the town's housing is detached. What is listed on GottaRent right now sits in two places: Bronte, the west-end harbour village, with buildings on East Street and Ontario Street a few minutes from Bronte GO; and White Oaks, where Marlborough Court and White Oaks Boulevard sit near Trafalgar Road and the QEW, about two kilometres from Oakville GO.
These are managed rental buildings, not condos rented by individual owners, which is the distinction that matters in Oakville. A managed building has a superintendent, a standard lease and predictable annual increases. Condo rentals here are common but come with the owner's mortgage in the rent and the possibility of the owner moving back in. The units listed range from a bachelor to two-bedroom-plus-den layouts, with the one-bedroom-plus-den at Marlborough Court being the kind of unit a couple working from home tends to look for.
Oakville GO and Bronte GO on the Lakeshore West line reach Union Station in 35 to 45 minutes, which is the whole reason for the rents. The QEW and 403 give a 30-minute drive to Mississauga or Hamilton. Sheridan College's Trafalgar campus is on the north side of town near the White Oaks buildings. If the prices here do not work, Burlington next door lists similar units for $200 to $400 less, and Mississauga has far more choice.

A one-bedroom in Oakville lists for about $200 more than in Burlington and roughly the same as downtown Toronto; a two-bedroom is $200 to $300 under downtown Toronto and $300 over Burlington. The buildings listed were all first occupied before November 2018, so Ontario's annual guideline (2.1% for 2026) applies to increases. Parking is usually included. Hydro is usually the tenant's. Oakville's other costs (groceries, insurance, transit fares) are the same as the rest of the GTA; only the rent is different.
Renter tips for Oakville
Managed building or private condo? Ask first
Most Oakville rentals on other sites are condos owned by individuals. The units here are in managed buildings. The difference shows up in year two: a managed building raises rent by the guideline; a condo owner may sell or move back in with 60 days' notice for personal use.
Bronte is the village option
The East Street and Ontario Street buildings are a short walk from Bronte harbour, the Lakeshore Road shops and Bronte GO. It is the one part of west Oakville where a car is optional, and the units are priced with that in mind.
White Oaks is the commuter option
The Marlborough Court and White Oaks Boulevard buildings are next to the QEW and Trafalgar Road, about two kilometres from Oakville GO. If you drive to work in Mississauga or Hamilton, this is the location that makes sense.
Ask what the den actually is
One- and two-bedroom-plus-den units are common in Oakville listings. A den can be a room with a door or an alcove off the living room. See it before you pay $200 a month for it.
Move fast in spring
Oakville's rental supply is small and turnover is low. Units come up when a tenant buys a house, which clusters in spring and early summer. Have documents ready and apply on the day you view; there is rarely a second unit next week.
